The Baron knows a good thing when he sees it and, for once in his life, made a prudent business decision when he secured a lifetime lease for his beloved Castlemaine Vintage Bazaar at Castlemaine’s newest happy place — The Mill. The derelict site of the old Castlemaine Woollen Mill (est. 1875) opposite the Botanical Gardens (est. 1860) has been resurrected as a leisure destination zone for locals and tourists. The Baron enjoys nothing more than his daily passeggiata around The Mill site with his two lurchers Cabaret, Voltaire and Zurich.
Within the FOOD PRECINCT he always stops to savour delights from the coffee roastery, cafe, the wine maker, the ice-cream artisan, the baker of bread, the maker of cakes and the brewer of beer. In the ARTISAN PRECINCT he marvels at the creations of working furniture makers, the cabinet maker and those awfully clever metal craftsmen. The VINTAGE PRECINCT hosts market-style spaces selling, second hand, upcycled and hand-made goods. One of the many superlative offerings is of course The Baron’s very own Castlemaine Vintage Bazaar.
The Mill Castlemaine is a work in progress and more spaces for artists and office space for businesses will be offered as the site is continually improved. The Baron asks you to be mindful of ex-industrial artefacts (aka shabby-chic-junk) when walking around the site, and be mindful of cars especially when walking through the carparks.
